Why cardiology pays attention

Uncontrolled high pressure over years is linked with strain on arteries, heart muscle, kidneys, and the brain. Follow-up aims to reduce that burden. It does not promise that every complication can be prevented.

Measurement and assessment

Numbers are read alongside repeated measurements, current medicines, and symptoms such as breathlessness or chest pain if they exist. Echo or other tests are added when there is a clinical reason, not automatically for every reading.

What this article does not do

It does not set your personal blood-pressure target, change your tablets, or replace your clinician’s instructions. Treatment changes need a direct assessment.

Emergencies

Very high readings with chest pain, sudden visual change, weakness of one side of the body, or severe breathlessness need urgent care.
